His clinical approach integrates best practices from cognitive-behavioral, trauma-focused, and skills-based therapies to promote lasting symptom relief and functional improvement.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Arcadia University (formerly Beaver College) and his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from La Salle University. During his doctoral training, Dr. Bortner completed a predoctoral internship at the Coatesville VA Medical Center, where he functioned as a general practitioner providing comprehensive psychological assessment and treatment. He subsequently completed his postdoctoral training at a private non-profit residential treatment facility for adolescents, where he continued working as a licensed staff psychologist and later advanced into the role of Assistant Clinical Director.

In addition to his private practice, Dr. Bortner currently serves as a Staff Psychologist and Team Lead at a nationally recognized VA Residential PTSD Program. His DBT work focuses on veterans with borderline personality disorder, treatment-resistant conditions, chronic emotional dysregulation, and self-injurious behaviors.

Dr. Bortner is committed to delivering ethical, evidence-based, and client-centered care, helping individuals build resilience, emotional stability, and meaningful life change.
